Becoming a mum for the first time was everything I hoped it would be. Me and my husband wanted our daughter so much and when she finally arrived, it felt like our whole world shifted. But there’s a moment no one really prepares you for: that first look at your baby just after they’re born.
I remember staring at her tiny face and thinking, “Oh my goodness… she’s a fully formed
person.” Crazy I know, what I thought I’d been carrying and growing for 9 months is beyond me!
Then the love hit.
Fast, fierce, overwhelming. We were so happy. But even the deepest love doesn’t shield you from loneliness.
I had my daughter in Spain. The weather was beautiful, the Mediterranean was right there
and the culture is incredibly warm towards babies. I was constantly stopped by older women
in the street who wanted to dispense their advice.
But I didn’t have my people.
The other mums had friendships going back years. Their families lived close by. My friends were still at work, living their normal routines. I had my new little family and I adored them, but I was lonely.
And that’s when walking saved me.
I walked every single day, sometimes for miles. The sunshine helped, of course but it was
more than that. Walking gave me space to breathe. It gave me a rhythm. It helped my
daughter settle and it helped me feel like myself again. It was the one thing that made
everything feel lighter.
There’s a saying I’ve always loved: there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate
clothing. I lived by that. Rain, wind, heat. I walked anyway. It became my anchor.
Now my daughters are teenagers and we still walk. When any of us feel sad, stressed or
overwhelmed, we grab the dog and head out. It’s our reset button. Walking has stayed with
me through every stage of motherhood. That feeling, that sense of connection, calm and possibility, is exactly what I want to bring to BabyBeats Walks.
It’s simple and gentle: mums, babies, fresh air and a walk at whatever pace feels right. No
pressure. No expectations. No need to “have it all together.” Just mums supporting mums,
sharing the highs and lows and giving each other space to breathe.
Because motherhood is hard when you’re doing it without a tribe. And it’s life changing
when you find one.
Walking isn’t just good for us. It’s wonderful for our babies too. Being outdoors gives them
new sights, sounds and sensations to explore. Natural light supports healthy sleep rhythms.
The gentle movement soothes them. And being close to other babies and mums helps them
feel safe and connected.
That’s the heart of BabyBeats Walks: a supportive community where mums can raise each
other up and babies can enjoy the world around them.
If you’re a mum whether your baby is tiny, toddling or somewhere in between you’re
welcome. Come as you are. Bring your pram, your sling, your tired eyes, your messy bun,
your questions, your stories.
Bring the version of you that needs fresh air and friendly faces.
We’ll be there, ready to walk with you.
